Hula Lessons with Maile
Hula Class for Men & Women - Beginners Welcome
Join the Tuesday Night on the Porch Gang At the Historic Shipman House
Maile Yamanaka teaches hula on the Shipman House porch Tuesday evenings from 5:30 – 7:00.
Call (808) 934-8002 to confirm class.
This is a regular class, but guests are welcome to either watch or join in (back row). Maile starts out with basic hand and foot movements, then puts them together in a simple hula that's like a hula alphabet for beginners. Then the fun begins, as students go through their favorite dances, or learn new ones, and guests may dance along if they wish.
Maile studied under kumu hula Auntie Maiki, and is accomplished in chant, dance and costume. She includes Hawaiian history and legends in her teachings, and this is often one of the high points for guests.
Donations to Maile are Encouraged
